Juba, South Sudan— On October 6, 2022, U.S. Ambassador Michael J. Adler made his first trip outside of Juba to Malakal in Upper Nile State.
He visited the Protection of Civilians site where he met with residents, USAID implementing partners, and UNMISS personnel. Ambassador Adler also visited medical facilities and a food warehouse supported by U.S. assistance and discussed efforts to provide aid to those displaced by severe subnational violence in Upper Nile and sustained, multi-year flooding. He reaffirmed U.S. support for South Sudan’s people and noted the need for the South Sudanese Government to improve security conditions in Upper Nile to alleviate human suffering and so that the most vulnerable communities can receive the aid and support they need.
The Ambassador also visited sites where victims of sexual exploitation and gender-based violence receive assistance and are learning income-generating skills.
