As of November 9, 2017, the security situation in Juba remains unchanged. However, as a precaution during the long U.S. holiday weekend that begins this evening, the U.S. Embassy has implemented a temporary curfew change. Effective immediately and until 6:30 a.m. Monday, November 13, 2017, Embassy travel policy will limit unofficial movements during periods of darkness. Personal travel must conclude by 1900 and the official curfew remains 2030.
Embassy personnel have also been directed to avoid the two block radius of the Presidential Compound (J1) until the stand-off with SPLA forces has been resolved.
The U.S. Embassy encourages U.S. citizens to take similar precautions and to monitor local media and the Embassy website. Please review the Department of State’s Travel Warning for South Sudan. The U.S. Embassy would also like to take this opportunity to remind all U.S. citizens that you should have evacuation plans that do not rely on U.S. government assistance, and should carry medical evacuation insurance.
